About us - History

1999:

Due to the rising request for metal foams, particularly aluminium and aluminium alloy foams, a joint venture between "SHW" and ECKA Granules was founded with the target to practice research and development in the field of aluminium foams up to a established production process.

2002:

In 2002 the company "Alulight International GmbH" emerged from the joint venture as a 100% subsidiary of ECKA Granules - the global market leader in the production of non-ferrous metal powders. The principal office is based in Ranshofen, upper Austria at the same location as the company "MEPURA" - a manufacturer of aluminium powder and also a subsidiary of ECKA Granules. Beside the domain of metal foams Alulight® is also producing powder metallurgical extruded aluminium profiles.

2004:

Due to the rising machinery outfit a new production hall was built. Since 2004 the acquired continous rotary extrusion system performs a certain service in producing continuous and homogenous precursor material which is essential for the reproducible fabrication of aluminium foam parts.
To introduce aluminium foams into North American markets "Alulight of America" was founded which is based in Newark , Delaware.

2005:

The machinery outfit was extended with two further installations:
Amongst a panel machine which is able to produce panels up to 4x3feet and a serial production machine was developed to produce crash absorbers for the German automotive industry.

2006:

Already one year later this worldwide first fully automated machine for the production of aluminium foam parts went on line and since producing 100.000 Parts per year.
In the meantime two million parts were produced in the aluminium powder extrusion process. These parts are used as camphaser in combination with aluminium sinter parts (ECKA Alumix®).
