Carter
The Carter made of aluminium foam was realised in cooperation with ACC and AVL.
Target of the project was to reduce the weight and noise emissions of a diesel engine under operating conditions. A common die casting aluminium carter operates as a resonating body which transforms mechanical oscillation and vibrations into hearable airborne sound.
Due to lots of pores in AlulightŪ aluminium foam vibrations are transformed into heat through small plastic deformations of the pore walls whereby the noise emissions are decreased.
Measurements have shown that by the excellent resonance decrease of AlulightŪ aluminium foam the structure borne sound was decreased on an average of 7db and the airborne sound was decreased on an average of 3db.
